Note: These pages were based upon the original HPS press releases, and in this case, there was not much material; as such, it will require a substantial effort to build enough content to resemble the other pages of titles in the series -this will be a longer term project. (ST)

Eckmühl includes 3 campaigns:

The campaign of 1809 was one of the great military struggles of the Napoleonic wars. While most of the conflicts of the period were marked by a Coalition of Allies fighting Bonaparte's French forces this time the Austrians would be fighting with their Hungarian and Tyrol allies against the forces of Napoleon, Bavaria, Saxony and his Confenderation of the Rhine member states! The initial period known mainly for the struggles of Davout and Lefebvre against the more numerous Austrian corps has born the name after the village which saw a great deal of changing of hands, Eckmühl. This first period of the war did not decide the war but did decide the initiative. After the loss of this portion of the campaign Charles would never hold the strategic initiative and would always be parrying the blows of the Army of Germany. This contest would be as Robert Epstein has stated one of the first instances of 'total war' fought on the European continent.

  • Eckmühl in One Battle

With the French Empire embroiled in a war with Spain and Portugal, the Austrians seek to catch Napoleon asleep in Europe. With only Davout's corps as the only veteran formation available the way seems ready for a liberation of Germany! Can the Austians sweep the French and their German allies before them and win the day?
